Community Projects

The Conservation Council works on a number of projects to highlight issues that are important to the protection of the Canberra environment.

Current Community Projects:

  • Gungahlin Online
    The Conservation Council works closely with Forde Developments to help engage the community learn what it means to live next to a reserve and to make sure their lifestyle doesn't impact on their environment.
  • Belconnen Online
  • North Watson
    Suburbs being built in close proximity to nature reserves have the potential to cause enormous damage to the delicate ecosystems within the reserves. The Conservation Council recognised this and so developed a program specifically designed to educate and fully engage communities living on the boundaries of nature reserves. The program is called Community Engagement in Conservation at the Bush/Urban Interface (CECBUI) and was funded initially through the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust. To date the program has been effective in Gungahlin in establishing a list of residents who are sent a monthly newsletter, promoting behaviour change though local publications and holding informative and inter

 

Previous Community Projects:

  • Nature's Treasures
    A teaching resource with information about the natural treasures in the ACT Region
  • ACTOtherwise
    A youth sustainability project aimed towards helping youth become more aware of their environment.
  • Bush on the Boundary
    A group of like-minded environmentalists from various backgrounds who work together to protect bush habitats of fauna and flora that are on the boundary ofhousing.
