Member Fora Series

With the deadline for submissions on the proposed Tidbinbilla Management Plan looming, now is the ideal time to discuss how we want the Tidbinbilla precinct (Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Birrigai and Jedbinbilla) to be managed.

This forum will have a panel for questions and answers, which will then flow into open discussion. Sitting on the panel will be Trish Bootes from TAMS, Kevin Frawley the author of the management plan and a representative from National Parks Association.

The Conservation Council ACT urges member groups in particular to take advantage of this opportunity and attend the forum to discuss issues arising from the plan.

Drinks and nibbles will be provided. Entry by gold coin donation, member groups and eco-activists free!

The Canberra Nature Park is important to many Canberrans. It offers space and greenery to people as well as providing invaluable habitat for our flora and fauna. The Office of the Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment Dr Maxine Cooper is running an investegation into Canberra Nature Park to help inform efforts to monitor and protect the reserves. How is this investagation going to be run and what does the community see as important for our nature reserves? Find out and have an opportunity to ask your own questions at this month's Member Forum.

Late last year the Conservation Council held a Member Forum to discuss some of the many issues surrounding the planning of Coombs and Wright.

The Jerrabomberra Wetlands are the most significant wetlands in the ACT.

The new East Lake Urban development will be in close proximity to this important habitat and, as with all new developments, has the potential to affect it’s delicate ecosystem.

At the midpoint of the Copenhagen climate talks late last year, over 2,500 Canberrans walked to show their
concern about climate change. A total of 100,000
Australians nationally were involved in last year’s Walk Against Warming.

Since then how far or how little have we as Australians come to tackle climate change?

Where does Australia stand in the climate change debate?

Paul Pollard examines and explains the differences between the many solutions that are being proposed to deal with climate change including the CPRS, an Emissions Trading Scheme, and a Carbon Tax.

Paul will also talk about what happened at Copenhagen and comment on what Australia needs to do in order to tackle climate change.
