The Conservation Council is the peak environmental organisation for the Canberra Region, our mission is to achieve the highest quality environment for Canberra and the surrounding region.

As a peak body, we represent the interests of community conservation organisations in the region as well as the broader environmental interests of all the citizens of the ACT.

What do we get for becoming a member group?

Representation

  • The Conservation Council ACT Region can be used as an auspice body for non-incorporated member groups.
  • Promotion, endorsement and strengthening of appropriate member campaigns/issues, which support and enhance Council policies, by Conservation Council ACT. This includes where relevant the Conservation Council taking these issues to representatives of Government.
  • Members can seek advice on their applications for grants.
  • Member groups will be promoted through the Conservation Council’s contacts by having a ìMember groups of the monthî section in all of the Conservation Council ACT Region’s publications for the wider community, which would include information about the member group and how to join them.
  • Forwarding of potential volunteers to member groups.

Communication and information

  • Member groups will receive regular grant alerts (notification of when grants are available).
  • Free Member Forum held monthly. Non-members will gain entry by gold coin donation.
  • Members will be invited to an annual conference/meeting designed so members can guide the progress of the Conservation Council as well as to discuss and elicit support for their own projects. It will also serve as a valuable networking opportunity.
  • Bi annual publication for members outlining major conservation issues and actions that the Conservation Council and its member groups are taking.
  • Regular notification of issues being considered by the Conservation Council
  • Use of facilities
  • Free use of meeting room. Non-members will incur a fee. Bookings may be made by phoning the Conservation Council on (02) 6229 3200
